Don’t try to sell me an oil tanker

Last week I went to an Enterprise Day at All Hallows School In Salford organised by the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce.

It was a great event where teams of pupils act as manufacturers whilst business people volunteer to be potential customers.

The teams manufacture a variety of products from a range paper templates, such as vans, handbags and a café.

Some teams came up to us and asked about our companies and what we might like to purchase. Some came having already purchased the raw materials for the products.

“Would you like to buy an oil tanker? ” one of the pupils asked.

“No, thank you” I said, we are a small training company, based inland!

All the children were polite and enthusiastic, but the ones who will do best, I’m sure, are the ones who take time to understand their customers’ needs.
